You Gave Up Your Resolutions, Now What

You Gave Up Your Resolutions, Now What

As I write this post just three weeks into the new year, most people have already given up on their new year’s resolutions. Could it be that their goals were too lofty or unrealistic? Perhaps most goals are not specific enough. Investing the time to be precise, and creating a plan to reach your goals is the first step. I like to use the acronym S.M.A.R.T. while formulating my goals and a strategy to attain them. ...

Lessons Learned from Dale Carnegie

Lessons Learned from Dale Carnegie

My first “real” job I had was when I was 15 years old with a local computer software company. I was a telemarketer tasked to sell CRM products. My supervisor noticed I was having trouble getting people interested in the product on the phone. Realizing I was struggling, he gave me a book that changed my life. It was Dale Carnegie’s How to Win Friends and Influence People. While I don’t recall whether or not it helped improve my sales skills right off the bat; I learned something greater, how to build relationships with people. Like many of you, I’ve been reflecting on 2014’s successes and failures, with some experiences working out better than others.  I couldn’t help but recall the times in 2014 when I felt extremely happy; moments when relationships felt full. I thought about why I had felt this way, and how I can create more of these feelings of fullness in 2015. It is easy to forget that the most important things in life aren’t things; they are our relationships. “How to Win Friends and Influence People”  has changed my paradigm of how I approached relationships with people.  However, over the past year I feel I have fallen short; causing me to reflect on key principles of cultivating relationships; with a determination to begin again… After all it’s not what you say, but how you say it (or how you choose to respond). Remember, the choice is always ours.  Have you read “How to Win Friends and Influence People”? If so, what are your thoughts? ...

The Rise of Social Media & Mobile Business

The corporate banter about the ROI and risks of using social media as a pure form of advertising is getting old. I'd like to address the cynics and vent some of my frustration with those who wish to continue their romance with traditional advertising. After all, it is almost 2015 and Apple has recently released it’s 6th iPhone. I’m not talking about those who embrace both advertising AND social media. I'm talking to those of you who are skeptical of social media and feel its unimportant or not worth investing in. However, you likely found this article and are reading it because you saw it via social media, perhaps a friend shared it with you. I rest my case... ...

10 Tips to Improve Facebook EdgeRank & Organic Reach

10 Tips to Improve Facebook EdgeRank & Organic Reach

I've read several articles about Facebook's EdgeRank algorithm changes and the negative effects on organic reach. There are many businesses struggling to even get the slightest amount of organic post reach on facebook. I've spoken with my colleagues and most have reverted to paid advertising to get "likes" and boost posts. Essentially they're buying more followers to temporarily boost engagement without fixing the problem. These tips can help you increase your organic reach and keep your tribe naturally by changing a couple of little things about how you approach your facebook strategy. ...
